Athletic Therapy
Athletic Therapy is the assessment and treatment of injuries and pain to the joints and soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) of the body. On your first visit, our Athletic Therapists will do an in depth assessment of your injury or pain and look at the body as a whole to determine not only the nature, but also the cause of your pain or dysfunction. It is important to treat not only your symptoms, but also the cause of the problem in order to eliminate it.
During your assessment, you will receive comprehensive education on your therapist's findings, as well as a proposed treatment plan. In most cases, some treatment will also take place, a home exercise program will be given, and instructions for self care will be discussed. Subsequent visits or treatment sessions will consist of mainly hands-on therapy techniques such as soft tissue release techniques and joint mobilization and positional change techniques.
Treatments may also consist of progressions to your home exercise program and in some cases electrical modality treatments. Our clinic and therapist philosophies are to spend dedicated one on one time with our patients, treating the cause of your injury to eliminate the problem using evidence base practice (manual and exercise therapy) as our primary tool.
Our Athletic Therapist can treat any pain or dysfunction resulting from: activities, sports, lifestyle, motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, unknown gradual or sudden onset of pain or dysfunction. After our assessment, if we feel you would benefit from a different type of therapy or further medical intervention is required, we will happily refer you to the appropriate professional.
Some examples of manual treatment techniques our therapist are trained in are: myofascial release, soft tissue release, strain counter-strain techniques, trigger point release, craniosacral therapy, therapist assisted stretching techniques, joint mobilizations, muscle energy techniques and traction. Exercise instruction can strive to increase: flexibility, range of motion, muscle re-education/activation, strength/endurance/power, agility, balance, proprioception, post-injury return to sport or life and performance increase. Available modalities include: heat/ice and contrast therapy including Game Ready cryocuff machines, electrical stimulation, acupuncture, ultrasound, brace fittings and therapeutic and kinesiology taping techniques.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a health care profession which assists people to restore, maintain and maximize their strength, function, movement, and overall well-being.
Physiotherapists have an in-depth knowledge of how the body works and specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and treat symptoms of illness, injury and disability. Physiotherapy includes rehabilitation, as well as prevention of injury, and promotion of health and fitness. Physiotherapists often work in teams with other health professionals to help meet an individual's heath care needs.
Physiotherapy is anchored in movement sciences and aims to enhance or restore function of multiple body systems. Physiotherapy can help you become stronger and more flexible, increase freedom of movement and mobility, reduce pain, stay active and prevent injury.
Your physiotherapists will perform a comprehensive assessment based on their knowledge of biomechanics and movement patterns to identify the specific cause of your pain or dysfunction. Once a clear picture of your overall situation has been determined your physiotherapist will concisely explain to you the nature and cause of your pain as well as a plan to return you to your activities in accordance with your goals. Most often you will receive exercises and/or positional education to help to manage your pain and begin to increase your strength and overall function.
Future sessions will focus on addressing and changing the causes of your dysfunction. Examples of some sorts of treatment you may receive are joint mobilizations/manipulation, nerve mobilization, supervised and progressive exercise and a multitude of techniques aimed at decreasing muscle tension and improving circulation. Each session with your physiotherapist is individualized and designed to help you reach your specific goals.

Chiropractic
Chiropractic care is a patient-centred, non-invasive, regulated health care profession that focuses on the spine, the various muscles and joints within the body, as well as the nervous system. Chiropractic care can promote health, alleviate pain caused by numerous musculoskeletal conditions, and improve quality of life. Chiropractors apply the best available evidence combined with their expertise to accurately assess and diagnose issues that affect your body’s movement.
Chiropractors use hands-on techniques such as manual soft tissue mobilization, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, therapeutic exercise prescription, acupuncture, electronic modalities, self-management strategies and patient education, among others. One of the most frequent treatments chiropractors use is manual manipulation of the vertebrae within the spine or other joints throughout the body, known as an ‘adjustment.’ To perform an adjustment, chiropractors use their hands to apply a controlled high-velocity, low-force thrust to the targeted joint. This action restores the joint’s natural movement and improves its overall function.
When applied to your spine specifically, this treatment is called spinal manipulation therapy (SMT). Manipulations can also be used on other joints, such as those in your wrist, ankle or foot, as an effective means of treatment.
Chiropractic care is not limited to the treatment of pain, and can be beneficial for many different populations varying from aging adults, expecting mothers, children, and athletes, who all visit chiropractors in order to reduce their risk of injury, and improve their mobility or overall function. Some of the conditions chiropractors commonly treat include back pain, neck pain, sprains, strains, pain associated with arthritis, and any work or sports related injuries, among others. Chiropractors may also order X-rays, or refer you to your family doctor or a nurse practitioner for other diagnostic tests, such as lab work or other methods of advanced imaging.
At your initial consultation or first visit, the goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of your medical history and current state of health, in addition to any other issues you maybe experiencing within your spine, joints, muscles, or nervous system. Chiropractors are able to perform physical tests such as assessing your heart rate and pulse, blood pressure, orthopedic tests, reflex, strength, and sensation tests, as well as a posture and movement analysis. We will then be able to diagnose and determine the issues affecting your body’s movement. If we suspect you have a condition that is more appropriate for another health care professional to treat, we will make the appropriate referral for you to ensure you are properly taken care of.
Fascia Stretch Therapy
Fascia Stretch Therapy (FST) is a table-based assisted stretching technique used to not only stretch muscles, but the connective tissue and fascia as well. This technique helps to restore and maintain the overall health of the musculoskeletal and neurological systems. It can be used as a maintenance or rehabilitation treatment and can be paired with almost any other form of physical therapy.
